Ax-Wielding Man Arrested in Bandon After Threatening Woman and Puppies

COOS COUNTY, Ore. — Bandon Police Department’s Deputy Starr apprehended an ax-wielding suspect, 31-year-old Scott Smith, on Monday evening after Smith threatened a woman and two puppies during a domestic disturbance on Rosa Road in Bandon.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Deputy Starr was in the area when the call for help came in at approximately 7:30 PM on Monday. During an incomplete 911 call, a female caller urgently pleaded, “Help me,” before the call disconnected.

Deputy Starr responded swiftly and, on arrival, Bandon Police found Smith inside the residence armed with an ax, but as he approached the scene, he was told that Smith had fled on foot.

Deputy Starr commenced an investigation after Smith could not be found, and he learned that Smith had threatened a woman and two puppies with a homemade hatchet, causing her significant fear.

As Deputy Starr left, Smith appeared from the rear of the property and was promptly apprehended and taken to Coos County Jail on charges of Domestic Menacing and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
