Ashland Police Identify Persons of Interest After Deadly ‘A’ Street Shooting
ASHLAND, Ore. — Multiple law enforcement agencies joined forces with the Ashland Police Department to investigate the fatal shooting of Matthew Mark Vandersande early Sunday morning. The homicide investigators have made significant progress and identified several persons of interest.
Investigators from the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit (MADIU), an investigative team made up of members of the Ashland Police, the Medford Police, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, the Jackson County District Attorney’s office, and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, spent the week furthering the investigation into the murder of Matthew Vandersande.
Vandersande was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds lying next to his car, which is well-known to many in the Ashland community, near ‘A’ Street and North 2nd Street on Sunday morning.
The suspect was seen on video surveillance, wearing dark clothing, fleeing toward North Pioneer Street on ‘A’ Street. Ashland Police asked for the public’s help after the deadly ‘A’ Street shooting.
This week, detectives continued following leads and canvassed several Ashland neighborhoods, interviewing possible witnesses and seeking evidence. Several search warrants were obtained and executed, and police identified multiple persons of interest. Several items of evidentiary value were also collected.
More search warrants will be sought as needed as the investigation progresses. The Ashland Police Department is still encouraging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and said they have no reason to believe that there is a general threat to the public.
