Ashland Police Ask for Public’s Help After Deadly ‘A’ Street Shooting

ASHLAND, Ore. — The Ashland, Oregon, Police Department has asked the public to help identify the person who fired several shots at Matthew Mark Vandersande of Ashland early Sunday Morning on ‘A’ Street before fleeing the crime scene.

 

‘A’ Street Shooter Still At Large

Ashland Police Officers and Paramedics from Ashland Fire & Rescue (AFR) dispatched to a report of a person lying on the ground next to a vehicle near ‘A’ Street and North 2nd Street on Sunday at 3:38 AM,  arrived to find a male, later identified as 40-year-old Matthew Mark Vandersande, with multiple gunshot wounds.

Paramedics indicated the victim was already dead upon their arrival, and a homicide investigation was initiated.

Vandersande was approached by the as-yet-unidentified suspect while inside his parked vehicle on ‘A’ Street, near North 2nd Street. The suspect fired multiple rounds at the victim, striking him several times, before fleeing the scene toward North Pioneer Street on ‘A’ Street.

The suspect was pinpointed through video surveillance that captured the person, wearing dark clothing, fleeing toward North Pioneer Street on ‘A’ Street after Vandersande was gunned down on ‘A’ Street. Vandersande was known by many in the Ashland community by his vehicle.

Ashland Police ask anyone with video surveillance footage for Sunday morning between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM or information they think could be helpful to the investigation to please get in touch with Detective Sergeant Rick Spence at 541-552-2172 or the Ashland Police Department Tip Line at 541-552-2333.

Police confirmed that the incident was a targeted shooting and there is no threat to the public at this time.
