Medford Homeless Man Arrested for Brutal Homicide After Deadly Assault Near Lowe’s Leaves Victim Dead

MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford Police arrested 34-year-old  34-year-old Christopher Shane Boyce on homicide charges after a brutal attack on April 25 at approximately 2:00 AM near the Lowe’s store on Delta Waters Road left 36-year-old Rory James Pomeroy with significant head injuries. Pomeroy died of his injuries later the same day.

Shortly after the Medford Police Department (MPD) investigation of the brutal assault that left Pomeroy in ICU was launched, and after the victim was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital by Mercy Flights personnel, MPD officers and detectives identified Boyce as a possible suspect, who they found in the vicinity.

Boyce was arrested at approximately 9:30 AM on 30 April at a residence in the 5600 block of Upton Road in Central Point.

Both the victim and the suspect are thought to have been experiencing homelessness and were staying in the area at the time of the assault.

A Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office forensic investigation determined the cause of death to be homicide on April 28.

The following day, MPD detectives recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the homicide from a nearby storm drain and arrested Boyce on April 30.

MPD indicated that Boyce will be lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Manslaughter in the First Degree. The case will be referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
