Klamath County Cuts All Animal Control Funding, Leaving Just Two Clerks to Cover Entire Region
KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) indicated that staffing cuts following the removal of all county general fund dollars from Animal Control for this fiscal year included the loss of four Animal Control Operations positions. As a result, public hours have been adjusted.
In a letter, KCSO confirmed that three Animal Control Deputy positions and one Animal Control Clerk position were cut.
The Animal Control Division now operates with only two Animal Control Clerks and has restructured operations and adjusted public hours.
To continue serving the community in some capacity, beginning August 1, 2025, the Klamath County Animal Control Office will be open to the public from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, aligning with Klamath Animal Shelter hours.
One clerk will be reassigned to animal control field duties, responding to as many domestic animal-related calls for service as possible, while the second clerk will be in the office to help with licensing, redemptions, and general public inquiries.
KCSO warned that reduced service levels due to the funding cut should be anticipated and encouraged the public to use online, mail-in, or drop box options for licensing.
KCSO is working on making online reporting tools and AI-assisted phone support available for FAQs and apologizes for any inconvenience. They ask for patience and understanding as they work through this transition.
