Gunfire Scare In Salem Park Ends With Arrests Of Man And Three Juveniles

SALEM, Ore. — A 25-year-old male adult and three juveniles were arrested in Salem’s Wallace Marine Park late on Monday night after the police received a report of several gunshots and the possible injury of a female.

Officers arrived on the scene, and after a search detained the male adult, Grant Pizzuto, and then three juveniles, all aged 17. All four live in Salem.

A drone was used to assist officers who then searched the park for the woman reported to have been shot. Although no other person was found, the police took possession of some evidence discovered during the search.

 

Two Juveniles Were Carrying a Loaded Shotgun and a Short-Barreled Rifle

A loaded 45-caliber handgun was seized from one of the juveniles after a struggle, and a short-barreled rifle was uncovered in a backpack carried by another of the juveniles. This, too, was seized and placed into evidence.

Pizzuto was lodged at Marion County Jail and charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm.

The juveniles were lodged at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.

The first juvenile is charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and interfering with a police officer.

The second juvenile is charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a short-barreled rifle, and unlawful use of a weapon.

The third juvenile is charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm.

The case is under investigation by the Salem Police Special Investigations Unit.
