Deschutes County Sheriff Leads Ongoing Search for Missing Pair After River Accident at Dillon Falls
DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. — The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon coordinated a multi-agency search and rescue operation after a group of six individuals went over Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River west of Bend Saturday afternoon. Four were found yesterday, but one had tragically passed away. The search continues today.
Responding to a Deschutes County 9-1-1 report of the incident at approximately 2:57 p.m. on Saturday, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Bend Fire & Rescue, and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) attended the scene.
The Bend Police Department provided drone support, and AirLink helped with the aerial search.
Three people were rescued from the river and taken to St. Charles-Bend by ambulance, but one was confirmed deceased at the scene. Two others remain missing. The victims’ names are not being released at this time to allow for proper family notification.
DCSO Search & Rescue and Bend Fire & Rescue crews continued recovery efforts into the evening last night, working until sunset. Operations were set to be paused overnight if unsuccessful, and will resume in the morning.
