Ashland schools were closed Feb. 22, 2007 and the city's youth took advantage of the time and the snow to have fun. These students really know how to catch some air. Cool boarding dude!

The storm of Feb. 22, 2007 left behind a record-setting snowfall, with up to 8.5 inches in Ashland. More than a foot in some higher elevations in town. Mt. Ashland received 22 inches of snow. The ice rink in Lithia Park was one of many structures upon which trees fell under the weight of the snow. Falling trees damaged vehicles and homes around the city and caused power outages. But the tragic collapse of the community ice rink will be felt by all.

Ashland's Festival of Light

Ashland's 14th Annual Festival of Lights continued the growing tradition of welcoming the holiday season on the day after Thanksgiving. After the parade, more than 1 million lights were turned on as Ashland businesses simultaneously flipped switches that more than 1,000 people crowded onto the Plaza to enjoy. Santa made his usual appearance and the Tidings videographer Valya Boutenko was there to capture all the highlights from the parade and festival.
On November 20, 2006 a potluck celebration was held at the Old Ashland Armory to honor those candidates who had participated in Ashland's City Council race. The event was primarily to provide a conciliatory tone in the aftermath of hotly contested political races and recognize those who participated in the democratic process. The event was open to the public and all candidates were invited to attend. Tidings videographer Valya Boutenko interviewed some of the candidates.
