Zach Brown scored 19 of his 36 points in the second half as Springfield withstood a late surge by Ashland to pick up a Midwestern League road win, 74-63, Friday at Mountain Avenue Gym.

Led by Anthony Swanson’s 21 points, Ashland cut Springfield’s lead to seven points in the fourth quarter before the Millers pulled away. Adam Jones hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points and KJ Pippa added 13 for the Grizzlies (4-9, 0-3 MWL).

Springfield (10-3, 3-0), which picked up its sixth straight win, also got 11 points from Jordan Carrillo.

Ashland’s next chance to snap its losing streak, which now stands at seven games, is next Friday at home against North Eugene.

Also Friday, Ashland's Anthony Smith hit a 3 with 4.5 seconds left to help the Grizzlies beat Springfield 46-45 in the junior varsity game.

SPRINGFIELD 69, ASHLAND 27: At Springfield, Ashland had difficulty corralling returning MWL player of the year, Cielo Gonzalez, in the MWL home loss.

The Grizzlies (3-10, 0-3 MWL) started off competitive but could not keep up with the Millers (11-2, 2-1), who led 41-14 at halftime.

Jayd Sollinger, a freshman guard, connected on two 3-pointers, the first treys for Ashland in six games.

The Springfield JV posted a 45-28 win over the Grizzlies.
