Marist denied Ashland a chance to cut into a 19-7 lead with a defensive stand inside the 15-yard line early in the second quarter and dominated the rest of the game en route to a 55-22 victory in Midwestern Conference football action Friday at Marist High School in Eugene.

The Spartans increased their lead to 25-7 by scoring on a 21-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter, then outscored the Grizzlies 22-7 in the third to put the game away.

The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the MWL. Marist improved to 2-2 and 2-0.

The host Spartans rushed for 472 yards and held the Grizzlies to 258 total. Individual statistics were not available at press time.

Ashland will make its home debut next week against winless Springfield (0-4, 0-2).
