Grace Angermeier's big day helped the Ashland High volleyball team squelch Springfield's upset bid in Midwestern League action Thursday at Mountain Avenue Gym.

Angermeier led the Grizzlies with 10 digs, 29 assists and four aces, as Ashland wiggled its way out of a third-set battle to win the match, 25-22, 24-26, 29-27, 25-11.

The win improved the Grizzlies to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the MWL, while Springfield remained winless at 0-7 and 0-6.

Ashland bounced back after losing three of its previous four MWL matches behind a balanced effort, as Angermeier, Alex Crane, Emily DeVall and Sydney Philpott all had big nights.

DeVall was Ashland's most dangerous offensive force with 11 kills and four aces, Crane added nine kills and Philpott chipped in 19 digs.

Also for the Grizzlies, Bella Sallee had four aces on what turned out to be a spectacular serving night for the home team.

The Grizzlies, who rank fourth in the eight-team conference, are now off until hosting fifth-place Thurston on Tuesday.
