The Southern Oregon University women's volleyball team opened its season with a loss to 14th-ranked Montana Tech before beating The Masters in five sets Wednesday at the Hope/Vanguard Summer Slam in Fullerton, California.

The Raiders won the first two sets against The Masters, which fought back to force a fifth and deciding set. Southern Oregon opened the fifth with a 9-2 run before eventually pulling out a 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 20-25, 15-9 triumph.

Malie Rube had 13 kills, 11 digs and an ace to lead the Raiders against The Masters, while Taylor Ristvedt added 15 kills and Natalie James 21 assists and 11 digs.

Statistics for the SOU-Montana Tech match were not available at press time. Montana Tech won the match in four sets.

Southern Oregon faces Morningside and Vanguard today.
