Rae Goff had two hits and Gabby Heiken gave up one unearned run in five innings but the Ashland Rumble suffered a 5-4 loss to the Lake Oswego Renegades in the first round of the USA Softball 12-B Oregon State Tournament Friday in Beaverton.

The loss drops the 12U Rumble into the losers bracket of the 25-team, double-elimination tournament. Ashland will play the Salem Aftershock in an elimination game today at 9 a.m.

The Renegades jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning before Heiken took over for Ashland in the circle and handcuffed Lake Oswego the rest of the way.

Ashland scored three runs in the fourth on a triple by Goff and RBI singles by Heiken and Kirsten Morgan, cutting the lead to one. After the Renegades added an insurance run to increase its lead to 5-3, Ashland staged a two-out rally in the top of the seventh. Goff drove in MeKenna Wheeler with a single and advanced to second on the throw, but was nailed at third base on a fake bunt-steal attempt.
