Ashland High School alum Sam Gaviglio is listed as the Seattle Mariners' probable starter for their game tonight against the Chicago White Sox.
It would be the first career start in the Majors for Gaviglio, who led the Grizzlies to their only state title in 2008, was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and made his Major League debut for the Mariners in a relief role last Thursday.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m.
For the second year in a row, the 2016-17 Cascade Collegiate Conference All-Sports Trophy belongs to Southern Oregon University, the league office announced Tuesday.
Points for the All-Sports Trophy standings are awarded based on a department's top eight finishes in CCC regular-season standings – except in the cases of cross country and track and field, which are scored based on finishes in the championship meets. SOU accumulated 200.42 points and was directly followed in the standings by Corban (190.34), Oregon Tech (185.10), College of Idaho (182.82) and Eastern Oregon (180.60).
SOU had never won the trophy before last year, when it scored 196.56 points.
