Southern Oregon University sprinter Matt East was voted the Cascade Conference Red Lion men's track athlete of the week Monday.
Competing in Saturday's Chico State Twilight Invitational, East, a redshirt-junior from Modesto, California, won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash and ran a leg in the Raiders' 4x100 relay victory.
East won the 100 in 10.56 seconds, two-hundredths of a second off SOU and CCC all-time records and seventh best in the nation, good enough to automatically qualify him for the NAIA Championships.
East won the 200 in 21.87 seconds and helped the SOU 4x100 relay team prevail in 41.56 seconds, the eighth-best mark in the NAIA so far this season.
The Ashland High girls placed first and the Ashland boys second in the Brookings Harbor High Invitational at Salmon Run on Monday.
The Grizz girls were led by junior team captain Ginny Cotton, who shot a 92 to take medalist honors in the girls' tournament. Freshman Suttyn Barats shot a 113 to place third and junior Sophia Rooney 115 to place fourth.
