The Ashland High girls swim team swept a four-team meet and the Ashland boys beat two of three opponents at the Medford Family YMCA on Wednesday.

The Ashland girls beat St. Mary's 76-58, South Medford 89-47 and Cascade Christian 109-12 in the nonleague meet. The Ashland boys edged St. Mary's 63-61, beat Cascade Christian 80-36 and missed its own sweep by a single point when South Medford squeaked out a 72-71 victory.

Senior Bekkah Higgins an individual event and helped the Grizzlies' 200-yard freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams both place second. Higgins won the 100 butterfly in 1 minute, 14.12 seconds.

Also for the Ashland girls, freshman Olivia McMonagle won the 500 freestyle in 6:52.22 and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:30.72).

For the Grizzly boys, freshmen Ziji Donahoo and Rileigh Orr each won one event and placed second in another.

Donahoo won the 200 freestyle in 2:06.76 and was runner-up in the 100 freestyle in 55.56.

Rileigh won the 500 freestyle in 6:14.75 and placed second to Donahoo in the 200 freestyle in 2:16.66.

Also for the Ashland boys, freshman Chris Frownfelter won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.80.

Girls Basketball

Visiting Churchill jumped out to a 26-1 first-quarter lead and beat cold-shooting Ashland 69-19 in a Midwestern League game at the Mountain Avenue Gym on Wednesday.

Mya Elder-Hammond paced Ashland (3-7, 0-2 MWL) with six points, five rebounds and five steals.

Churchill improved to 2-0 in the MWL and 8-3 overall.

Boys Basketball

At Eugene, Lucas Wilson and Spencer Hoffman combined to score 24 points in the first half as Churchill roared to a 36-20 lead at the break en route to a 69-36 win over Ashland in Midwestern League action Wednesday.

Hoffman finished with a game-high 23 points and Wilson 18 for the Lancers, who improved to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the MWL.

Peyton Fuller drained three 3-pointers on his way to a team-high nine points for the Grizzlies (3-9, 0-2). Also for Ashland, McKane Ellis scored six of his eight points in the second quarter.
