8/29/1935 - 8/10/2017
Our beloved Mother, Glenda Brown, passed away in her sleep August 10, 2017 in Marysville, Washington, at the age of 81. Glenda was the youngest of three girls, born August 29, 1935 to Peter and Frances Moran in Anaconda, Montana.
Glenda was a gifted and avid reader. She would frequently take home 10 books at a time from the library and finish them all. She attended the University of Washington, graduating with her master’s degree. She initially wanted to be an engineer, but soon developed an interest in dietetics. In 1962, she married optometrist Charles Brown in Ashland, Oregon. Glenda and Charlie were soon blessed with three children in three years, Chuck, Rachel, and Susan Brown. Glenda also worked full-time outside of the home while raising her children. She worked as a dietician at Southern Oregon College and local hospitals until she began working as the office manager at her husband’s optometric business, Ashland Eye Care. Coming from a family in the jewelry business, Glenda always had an interest in jewelry, especially antique jewelry. For a short time, she opened Glenda’s Gifts, to work with jewelry. When the optometric office closed, both Charlie and Glenda retired, but stayed in Ashland. She was a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church for over 55 years. She loved her family and her home in Ashland. She moved up to Marysville, Wash. in March of this year after the sudden death of her husband of 54 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Joan Hebert; and her husband, Dr. Charles Brown. She leaves behind her sister, Joy Hermle (Joe) of Seattle, Wash.; children, Chuck Brown (Terry) of Orlando, Florida, Rachel Brown-Wagner (Aaron) of Tulalip, Wash., and Susan Cavanaugh (Doug) of Marysville, Wash.; four grandchildren, Dayne and Zachary Wagner, Sierra Bott, and Alexa De Guzman; two step great-grandchildren, Ashton and Audrina De Guzman; and one great-grandchild, Cole Bott.
A memorial service is scheduled to be held in Seattle, Wash., where most of her relatives currently reside, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Burien, Wash. at 11:00 a.m. September 9, 2017. Burial to follow at 11:30 a.m. September 11, 2017 at Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Food & Friends, PO Box 3275, Central Point, OR 97502.
