December 17, 1927 - June 25, 2017
Bettie Hunn Henry passed away at home in Ashland, Oregon after a brief illness. She was born in Stanford, Kentucky to Carl and Mary Hunn.
After graduating from Fort Knox High School, she set her sights on University of Kentucky where she received her B.S. in Home Economics. There she met and married her love, and life partner of more than 50 years, Julian Henry. After graduating they headed west, eventually settling in California where they raised their two children, Victor and Cynthia, and a veritable zoo of animals. Bettie worked as an educator, newspaper reporter, and dietician while being enmeshed in community theater, local politics and “kid stuff.” After she and Julian “retired” to Ashland, Ore. in 1980, Bettie held long-term positions at Southern Oregon University catering and the Ashland Springs Hotel. She was involved in American Association of University of Women, League of Women Voters, Siskiyou Singers, Ashland Co-Op, CERTS, SOLIR, YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, and the Ashland Elks Lodge.
Bettie was an avid traveler, bridge player, lifelong learner, and volunteer who befriended those she crossed paths with. She lived her life with admirable passion, grace, and a spicy sense of humor. Her generous and lovely spirit touched many; lessons for a life well lived. She will be missed and remembered by her family, friends, co-workers, and countless others whom she touched.
Bettie is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Guthrie; son-in-law, Eric Guthrie; grandsons, Dayne and Brogan Guthrie; daughter-in-law, Lori Henry-Martin; and granddaughters, Makenzie and Taylor Henry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Julian Henry and son, Victor Henry.
Contributions in her name may be made to the American Association of University of Women’s Scholarship fund.
A celebration of life will be held in the fall.
