Ashland Kiwanis has named Abbey Ash as its May 2018 Youth of the Month.
Abbey is a senior at Ashland High School. She grew up in Arizona and came to Ashland just prior to enrolling in middle school. During high school, she has been an alternative student, taking the SAEJ and Catalyst courses instead of traditional classes for some of her credits.
During the last school year, Abbey traveled to Japan as an exchange student and is now finishing up high school. After school, she is working as an intern at the Enchanted Florist in Ashland. “I really love my job because I can be really creative and we have the nicest customers,” she says.
Abbey has a high interest in our preserving the environment, including recycling programs.
She plans to attend the University of Oregon this fall. While she is still undecided about her major, she will explore studies in international relations and journalism.
Abbey was presented a Kiwanis award certificate and $50 in cash by the club’s Chad Smith. During the month of May, the $1,000 Tommy Laird Kiwanis College scholarship will be awarded to two Youth of the Month recipients.
