All Ashland residents are invited to the 2018 State of the City Celebration starting at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the Ashland Springs Hotel ballroom, 212 East Main St., the city has announced.

Mayor John Stromberg will give this year State of the City Address this year, after a welcome session and the year in review presentation.

The event will also honor former state representative Peter Buckley with the Alan M. Bates Public Service Award and two community members, Jason and Vanessa Houk, with the annual James M. Ragland Volunteer Spirit Award. 

Buckley ran successfully for a Democrat seat in the Oregon House of Representatives in 2004. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2008. Most recently, Buckley is serving as Governor Kate Brown's senior advisor, transformation and budget stability.

The Houks are known to be the leaders in the effort to house the homeless population during the winter season. The couple also serves weekly Friday night dinner and staff the Sunday night shelter at Pioneer Hall.
