For the second year running, the Ashland Kiwanis Club has donated funds to the Ashland High School’s Robotics team. This year's donation is $250.

In 2017, AHS’s robotics team won six of 11 matches and earned the Engineering Inspiration Award at the Pacific Northwest District Championship in Cheney, Washington, earning the team’s first trip to the World Championship in Houston, Texas.

"The excitement of sport, the rigors of science" — that is the motto of the Robotics Team. In 2018, under strict rules, limited resources and the guidance of volunteer mentors, including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, the team has just six weeks to build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a large field of competitors.

They must also raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and perform community outreach. The team is scheduled to participate in two competitions in Oregon in 2018: Wilsonville (March 8-10) and Lake Oswego (March 29-31). If the team does well at these competitions, they will compete in the district championship in Portland, and then possibly move onto the World Championship in Houston.
