Center for the Visual Arts: New art exhibits open with a reception with the artists from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in the Art and Marion Ady buildings, on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Indiana Street, at Southern Oregon University, in Ashland. Look for Haley Summerfield's collection "Of the Body" in the Retzlaff Gallery; a multi-media collection by the Southern Oregon Fine Arts club in the Thorndike Gallery; Dewy's paintings "From Within" in the Meyer Memorial Gallery; Sherry Amoore's black-and-white film photography "Framily" in the Boise-Cascade Gallery; Madeline Scannell's photography works "Interaction" in the Art Department Chairs Gallery; and a series of multimedia artworks by students in the figure painting and drawing methods class, titled "Figure Forms" in the JELD WEN Gallery. Ashland International Folk Dancers: The group meets Fridays at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way, to perform dances from Eastern and Western Europe, Greece, Scandinavia, Israel, Turkey and the Middle East. Rogue Valley Symphony: Electric violinist and composer Tracy Silverman will join the symphony orchestra to perform his "Love Song to the Sun," the third composition to be premiered by RVS during its 50th anniversary season. Also on the program, RVS celebrates the 100th birthday of composer Leonard Bernstein with "Fancy Free: Three Dance Variations" and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. Concerts are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in the Music Recital Hall, 405 S. Mountain Ave.,at Southern Oregon University, in Ashland; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Performing Arts Center, 830 N.E. Ninth St., Grants Pass. Conductor Martin Majkut will host pre-concert talks one hour before each show.
