Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art in collaboration with the University’s Campus Theme is hosting a visiting artist lecture by Maria de Los Angeles, whose work titled "Transcending Myths" will be shown in the Museum’s Treehaven Gallery Jan. 18 – March 17. The lecture will be from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the Meese Auditorium in the Art Building.
A Mexican-American artist and DACA recipient, de Los Angeles focuses her work on her own experience with the “illegality” of her identity, and the current conversation on deportations and the right to belong. Her work has been exhibited in numerous venues, including the Sonoma County Museum (Santa Rosa, California), El Museo Del Barrio (New York City), Casa de Las Americas (Havana, Cuba) and the Los Angeles County Museum.
The lecture and showing are free and open to the public.
