Local groups have taken on the task of spreading happiness by creating hand-painted rocks that are displayed publicly.
Anyone who would like to try their hand at it can get started with a how-to session at McCall House Bed and Breakfast, 153 Oak St., Ashland, called "Snowmen Rock!" The event will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12.
Rock painting groups' mission is to make someone’s day, promote random acts of kindness or send an inspirational message. Rock painters anonymously leave their painted rocks in public places — i.e., parks, coffee shops, walkways — for someone else to find.
There are several rock painting groups in the local area, including Southern Oregon Painted Rock #SOPR, Central Point Rocks and Talent Oregon Rocks #TOR.
If you're interested in joining in, attend the event at McCall House Bed and Breakfast, at a cost of $20 per person. Lynette and Jack Skinner will walk attendees through the process of getting involved in rock painting. The fee includes rocks, paint supplies and a glass of wine. Call Linda or Maggie at the McCall House, 541-482-9296, to reserve a spot. Seating is limited.
