Local poets will read poems by William Stafford and audience members are invited to bring and share their own favorite Stafford poem at the 21st annual William Stafford Poetry Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 11. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Hannon Library’s Meese Room on the Southern Oregon University Campus.

The event, hosted by Friends of Hannon Library, is held every year to commemorate the birthday of the late Oregon poet laureate. A prolific writer, Stafford’s work is often associated with inspirations from nature, family and the poet’s pacifist views as a conscientious objector during World War II.

Stafford (1914-1993) taught for nearly 30 years at Lewis & Clark College in Portland.

As part of the Friends of Hannon Library Speaker Series, Thursday's event is free and open to the public. Attendees can get free campus parking for this event by visiting any campus parking meter and using the code FHL0111.
