The Mt. Ashland Ski Area will open from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday for its annual Snow Stomp party. While the area lacks enough snow to open ski runs, it will be offer a small terrain park serviced by a rope tow next to the lodge. The ski area “farmed” snow from the parking lot to build the park. Slopes will also be open for sledding.

The event will offer the opportunity to see the results of a major renovation of the lodge. Skiers and snowboarders also may pick up season passes. The Snow Stomp will include live music by local band Buckle Rash, a “Best Boots” competition and a chance to win a $500 gift certificate to Rogue Ski Shop. The recently renovated Granite Grill and the T-Bar Lounge will be open for business featuring local food and beverages.

Backed by a $500,000 matching grant from the Karen and Sid DeBoer Foundation, the ski area raised $1.2 million to renovate the lodge. Plans for work on the lodge included adding 1,000 square feet by enclosing two outside decks, moving the center staircase to the side of the building, renovating and reorienting the kitchen and dining area, swapping the ski rental and locker room spaces and reroofing the building.
