The Crown Jewel, a locally owned store, has announced it will donate to a Soroptimists International of Ashland fund to create an additional Live Your Dream Award for a woman in the Rogue Valley.
The Live Your Dream Awards, a project of Soroptimist International, go to local women who are the primary bread-winners for their families and are enrolled in school to better their careers. Many of the women selected have overcome enormous obstacles, including poverty, domestic violence, the death of a spouse and substance abuse. Winners are announced in May, and go on to compete for additional scholarships at the regional and national level.
Ten awards were given out last year by Soroptimist clubs in Josephine and Jackson counties, and the Crown Jewel donation will allow an additional scholarship to be given in 2018. The application deadline is Nov. 15. More information and applications are available at www.soroptimistrv.org/liveyourdreamaward.html.
The Crown Jewel, with locations in both downtown Jacksonville and Ashland, is owned by Anne and Jason Robison. The stores offer jewelry, gifts, decor, art and clothing with an emphasis on local and U.S. items and fair trade.
The donation to Soroptimist International of Ashland is part of The Crown Jewel’s Giving Meaning Campaign, in which they have pledged to donate 10 percent of their profits from the last four months of 2017 to causes supporting women. See its website at www.thecrownjewel.net for more information.
