Artist Krista Hepford is creating wall art on the side of the Abbey Carpet and Floor building at 1668 Siskiyou Blvd. in Ashland. The mural, which will show two hands reaching to clasp each other, uses stones and found objects, mainly discontinued stock or leftovers from the store, which would otherwise be tossed in the dumpster, including ceramic, glass and mosaic pieces.

As of Thursday, Hepford had raised $2,835 towards a goal of $5,700 on her GoFundMe.com/uplifting1 page to pay for materials needed to create the mural — which she reports is "unexpectedly expensive in products it takes to adhere the recycled stuff to the wall." Proceeds from sale of chocolate "mural bars" made by Branson Chocolates, a few doors down, also support the project. The bars are available at Shop'n Kart. Hepford is also looking for people to participate in the creation of the mural to make it a community effort.
