Center for the Visual Arts: Fall exhibits feature student, faculty and community artists and are open Friday, Oct. 6, through Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Art and Marion Ady buildings, on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Indiana Street on the Southern Oregon University campus in Ashland. Look for photography by Matika Wilbur, "Project 562," in the Retzlaff gallery; the annual "Tiny Art Show" can be found in the Thorndike, Meyer Memorial, Art department chairs, Boise-Cascade and JELD-WEN galleries. Film screening and Q&A: "Rebels on Pointe," a film that follows Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo — a male drag ballet company founded in 1974 by a group of New York City ballet enthusiasts, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the Varsity Theatre, 166 E. Main St., Ashland. The film, directed by Southern Oregon University alumnus Bobbi Jo Hart, juxtaposes behind-the-scenes access and intimate stories of its dancers, highlighted by playful, entertaining performances of traditional classical ballet in parody form and "en travesti." Hart will attend the screening and host a Q-and-A. An after-party dance will be at 9:45 p.m. at the Ashland Springs Hotel.
