TALENT — A man suspected of stabbing another man several times and putting him in the hospital early Sunday still had not been located by police Sunday night.

Oregon State Police have identified 31-year-old Jose Luis Cabrera as the stabbing suspect, according to a news release. He had left the scene of the crime before officers arrived. As of Sunday evening, he was still at large, police said.

Little information was available about the incident, which occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 500 block of Talent Avenue, a stone's throw from the Talent police station. Officers and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene for a reported assault, where they found a man who had been stabbed several times.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released by police, was transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. His condition was not immediately available, nor was any information on what led up to the stabbing.

The investigation is still underway by the Jackson County Major Assault & Death Investigation Unit, with OSP as the lead agency. Anyone with information about Cabrera's whereabouts is asked to contact the OSP Dispatch Center at 541-664-4600. A physical description of Cabrera was not immediately available.
