The group composes, performs, improvises and creates interdisciplinary projects. Southern Oregon Concert Band: The community band will present "Bandsmen Favorites," a program of the members' favorite works for concert bands, at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, in the Music Recital Hall, 405 S. Art and Hiking: Artist Sarah F. Burns will share techniques for identifying and sketching cloud types during an interactive presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. She will give sketching demonstrations and then let participants create original artwork during a hike that departs at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 27, from the Hobart Bluff Trailhead south along the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. The trail includes scenic views of Pilot Rock and Hobart Bluff. The free events are part of the Hike & Learn series with the Friends of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. All Ages Alternative Prom: LGBTQ people and their allies are invited to the 12th annual All Ages Alternative Prom at the Ashland Historic Armory, 208 Oak St., Ashland. The theme of this year’s dance is “I Love the 80s.” A family fun hour begins at 7 p.m. From 8 p.m. to midnight, events include DJ music, music videos, a costume contest, a photo booth, portrait photography, Teen Theater entertainment and the announcement of annual Social Justice Awards. Mushroom Collecting Hike: Local expert Nils Nelson will lead a guided hike to learn about edible and poisonous mushrooms and gather edible mushrooms on Sunday, May 28. Participants meet at 9 a.m. at the Northwest Nature Shop, 154 Oak St., Ashland to carpool. The drive is approximately one hour each way. The cost is $20 per person. Participants must be ready for a day of off-trail walking. Wear layers, bring water, a lunch, a pocket knife and a cloth collecting bag.
