A squirrel fried a major electrical line Friday morning in Ashland and caused a large power outage snarled traffic and slowed the city to a crawl.
The squirrel came in contact with a city-owned electrical line at Pacific Power's Nevada Street substation, according to Pacific Power.
Ashland police said traffic lights throughout the city were off, causing traffic jams downtown and elsewhere on Main Street.
City electrical crews were busy isolating the fried line and rerouting electricity to customers through Ashland's other two substations, according to an Ashland news release.
Crews had power restored to all areas by about 12:30 p.m., nearly five hours after initial reports of the outage.
