Two Trail residents suspected in half a dozen bank robberies across Oregon — including three in Jackson County — have been arrested.
John Steven Shepard and Kimberly Ann Blank, both 37, were arrested just after 10 p.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood in Fortuna, California, according to a Fortuna police news release. The department received a call of a suspicious vehicle at about 10 p.m. The occupied vehicle, a red Chevy truck, had been parked there for several minutes and wasn't familiar to neighborhood residents, the release said.
Officers responded to the scene and found Shepard and Blank sitting in the vehicle. When the officers discovered federal warrants had been issued for both suspects, Shepard and Blank were arrested and lodged in the Humboldt County Jail, where they await extradition back to Oregon.
"See, being a nosy neighbor pays off," a Medford police Facebook post said. "We are very happy to have them in custody."
The pair are suspected of robbing Federal Bank in Rogue River Jan. 27, Umpqua Bank in Ashland March 23 and Bank of the Cascades in Medford March 20.
They are also suspects in the Feb. 1 robbery of Key Bank in Grants Pass, the Feb. 7 robbery of Banner Bank in Riddle, and the Feb. 16 robbery of Banner Bank in Cottage Grove, according to Medford police.
