SOU Wind Ensemble: The ensemble, directed by Cynthia Hutton, will present "Styles and Contrasts," a program of music by composers John Mackey and Kathryn Salfelder performed by Southern Oregon University's Wind Ensemble and Jazz Combo, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in the Music Recital Hall, 405 S. Mountain Ave., on the SOU campus in Ashland. Mackey's and Salfelder's music mixes traditional and contemporary ideas. Brava! Opera: Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti's 1843 comic opera, "Don Pasquale," will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday, March 17, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at the Mountain Avenue Theatre on the Ashland High School campus, 201 S. Mountain Ave. Directed by Willene Gunn and conducted by Martin Majkut, this fully staged opera will be performed in English. The show will feature a cast of professional singers and instrumentalists, and Donizetti's hilarious plot and sublime music combine to create a masterpiece.
