Alicia Viani and Mark Karwan
Ashland native, singer, songwriter and guitarist Alicia Viani and acoustic bassist Mark Karwan will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at La Baguette Music Cafe, 340 A St., Ashland. 'The Snow Queen'
Based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about two children, Kai and Gerta, who are separated when the wicked snow queen. Gerta is determined to bring Kai home and sets out on a journey filled with adventure and fantastic creatures. Book and lyrics are by Kirsten Brandt and Rick Lombardo and music is by Haddon Kime. Susan Aversa-Orrego directs. Grace Peets and Evan Sheets play Gerda and Kai; Rose Passione plays the Snow Queen. The show runs through Dec. 31. Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. and matinees are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $25; $20 for seniors and students.
'The Concert for New Year’s Eve'
This New Year's Eve concert — a tradition since 2001 — will feature music for flutes, classical guitar, voice, harp and piano played by some of the Rogue Valley's best-known musicians: Laurie Anne Hunter, Alexander Tutunov, Joseph Yungen, Lisa Nichols, Sherril Wood, Lindsay Panero, Shelly Cox-Thornhill, Tamara Marston, John Stadelman and Wenjun Qi. Look for works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, James MacMillan, Claude Debussy, Alexander Scriabin, Franz Doppler, Dave Brubeck, Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, at the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, 1615 Clark St. A reception will follow. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
New Year's Eve Fancy Pants Dance
A multi-generational dance party — for kids, parents and grandparents — will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, at Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. Dance to old-time rock 'n' roll by DJ Dave the Z-Man. Healthy snacks will be provided, and the ball drops at 9 p.m. Admission is $5, $3 for kids 11 and younger. Call 541-488-7716 for information.
New Year's Eve Blast Off
This space-themed New Year's Eve party will feature DJ performances by Alcyon Massive, Jeffrey Smith, NoWa and G-Rad, along with live painting, flow artists, aerial silk dancers and food and beverage vendors at the historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the music starts at 9. The party is open to ages 21 and older. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the show, and can be purchased at liveatthearmory.com or at Music Coop, 268 E. Main St. Bring a food donation for the Ashland Emergency Food Bank and receive a $2 discount on day-of-the-show tickets.
