A Shine a Light vigil aimed at providing healing and awareness for victims of sex traficking and the commercial sex industry will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Southern Oregon University main gym.

Those who attend the third-annual event, which is held on the shortest day of the year, will be able to practice yoga by candlelight and hold a vigil with 12 local yoga teachers who will guide participants through 108 sun salutations.

Shine a Light distributes grants to organizations in Oregon and India which provide refuge, rehabilitation and education to those affected by sex trafficking or the commercial sex industry. According to event organizer Mary Rogan, Shine a Light — a registered non-profit — has distributed more than $44,000 the last two years and has set a goal of $25,000 for this year's event.
