Spencer Vaccaro, a 22-year old junior in Business Administration at Southern Oregon University, was awarded $1,000 for study this summer at Hochschule für Technik und Wirschaft des Saarlands, in Saarbrucken, Germany. This annual scholarship comes from funds donated by Friendship Force of Southern Oregon members.

This was Vaccaro's first trip to anywhere away from the western U.S. He reported to club members on his joy at meeting and making friends with other students from many places in the world, and his delight at learning a little about others' cultures. His classes during his three-week stay focused on German language and culture.

Friendship Force chapters — www.ffsoregon.org or www.thefriendshipforce.org — support a mission of building good will through personal friendships “one friend at a time.” Members travel to other states and countries and stay in the homes of hosting club members. Spencer ‘s enthusiastic embrace of the Friendship Force mission through his international experience in Germany has delighted the Friendship Force of Southern Oregon club members, who are pleased to assist a deserving member of the younger generation in making life-long international friendships.
