Gwen G. Thomas of Ashland passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Linda Vista Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Gunhild Gertrud Gerta Glantz March 10, 1913 in Moulton, Wash. a small town in south western Washington.
She later moved with her family to Oregon, and met her future husband, Harold Thomas, whom she married in Vancouver, Wash on December 24, 1936. The couple moved to Ashland around 1944 and went on to have three children, Kermit, Karen, and Kip, who gave her five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Gwen was an active part of the Ashland community for many years. She was voted Woman of the Year in 1954 by an American Association of University Women poll. She volunteered at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, was active with the P.E.O Sisterhood, and worked for greater than 50 years at Ashland Drug.
She loved playing bridge, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and most of all she loved her family and her many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Mountain View Retirement Center in Ashland, her home for the last 10 years. She was a special lady and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to have her in their lives.
