September 21, 1928 ~ February 14, 2014
Hugh Van Dewalker passed away February 14, 2014, after a brief illness. He was an active 85 year old who worked until the last couple of weeks before his death. Hugh retired from the lumber industry many years ago, and in his retirement years he established a lawn and gardening business. Hugh always believed that he should do his job as unto the Lord and he devotedly served his long-time customers for many years.
Hugh was born to Charles and Nina Van Dewalker, in Nevada City, Calif. and moved to Ashland, Ore. when he was ten. He graduated Ashland Senior High in 1947 and married his high school sweetheart, Diane, who survives. Hugh and Diane lived in Ashland for many years and moved to Phoenix, Oregon in 1996.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his daughter, Nicki (Jim); five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Joan Blasor of Mineral Wells, Texas; a niece; three nephews; and daughter-in-law, Becky. He was preceded in death by his son, Steve, who passed in 2012.
Hugh and Diane attend Ashland Christian Fellowship where he served the Lord faithfully.
Hugh was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. We will all miss his kind words and gentle smile. We are comforted that he is with the Father and probably gardening in Heaven. Now that his working years are over, his life has just begun!
Please join the family in honoring and remembering Hugh. A remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Ashland Christian Fellowship.
