On New Year's Day, at the age of 90, Mary Ingram passed away peacefully, with both her daughters at her side. Mary was a remarkable woman, who lived a long and full life, showing courage and strength during the hard times and a great zest for living during the good times. She was always active and athletic, and very much a health and fitness devotee. She skied at resorts all over the West, participated in a competitive tennis club, started horseback riding in her 70s, and even took up tap dancing when she was 85! Mary was also an intellectual, with a B.A. in History and English from U.C. Berkeley. She was always a great reader, and a passionate liberal Democrat, working for causes of justice, literacy, equality, and peace. And mainly, she adored her family, just as we adored her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ingram, and her son Robby Ingram. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ingram (Pat Elston) and Ginna Ingram (Bob Wise); beloved grandchildren, Kathleen Wise, Adam Wise, Rafe Tejada-Ingram (Lina Tejada-Ingram), and Ben Tejada-Ingram; and by her baby great-granddaughter, Opal Tejada-Ingram, who brought Mary such joy in the last months. Mary also has two surviving siblings, Jean Smith and Ellison Smith.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Ashland Hospice, the staff at Emeritus at Mountain View in Ashland, and especially to Marion Assenmacher, Mary's amazing caregiver and friend.
Mom, Mary, Grandma, and Great-Grandma: We love you and will always carry you in our hearts.
Memorial contributions may be made to SMART, a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization devoted to children's literacy. Mary volunteered in this program as a reading mentor for many years. Their address is 670 Superior Ct. Ste. 108, Medford, OR 97504.
