Medford set a record high temperature Thursday of 67 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 65 degrees for Jan. 23 in 1959, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologist Shad Keene said the warmth came from a "very warm area of high pressure over the northeast Pacific." That warm air has been there for some time, but it wasn't until a foggy inversion broke that the air could make its way down to the valley floor.

Precipitation recorded at the Medford airport remains far below normal, with 4.97 inches recorded since Sept. 1, less than half of the normal 10.05 inches for the water year.
