Robert Jennings Brown, 91, passed away in the presence of his family Saturday afternoon at his Medford residence. He was born to Gertrude and Jennings Brown in Augusta, Kan. June 30, 1921. He married Frances Hogue in 1940, with whom he had two children, Robert Allen Brown and Carolyn Verne Brown. He served in WWII in the Philippines where he was awarded the Purple Heart. In 1949 he married Dorien Lee Collinson with whom he had four children, Marilyn, Gordon, Sharilyn, and Paul. Dorien passed in 1976. In 1977 he married Alma Owsley who had two children, Alan (now deceased) and Buddy Knoles. She passed in 1996. In 2001 he married Bessie Scott, who survives and has three children, Tom, Marian, and Diane. Scottie and Bob were inseparable.
He is survived by three sisters, Doris Portwood, Pauline Weaver and Gertrude Wilcox, all of whom live in Medford. He was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Jean Sudduth and two others who died in childhood. He is also survived by his six children; 15 grandchildren; and numerous grandchildren, step-children and step-grandchildren. Bob was an avid bodybuilder and motorcyclist who always lived for his family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, 2004 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Memorial contributions may be made to Access, Inc. Medford for the Greensprings Food Pantry.
