Jack Melvin Workman, 84, of Judsonia, Ark., passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

He was born August 19, 1927, in Ashland, Ore., to father, Melvin Andrew Workman, and mother, Grace Louise Turnbaugh. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was also a member of the Phoenix Lions Club and the Medford Elks Lodge. Jack served as the mayor of Phoenix ,Ore., from 1974 to 1978. He also spent 17 years volunteering at the Phoenix Fire Department, part of the time as the Fire Chief.

He enjoyed woodworking, camping, and RV-ing. He said for us to remember the good times.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Grace Workman; his sister, Norma Hickman; his brothers, Ed and Floyd Workman; his wife, Jody Charles Workman; and his two sons, Joseph Workman and Robert Rock.

Jack is survived by his wife, LaWanda Workman; and his children, Louise (Dan) Hanscom, and Sandra (Ronny) Johnson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Wendy Workman, Angela, and D.J. Hanscom, and Jennifer and Christopher Johnson; three great-grandchildren; and his sisters-in-law, Marlene and Sandi Workman, and Kathryn Wickham.

A memorial service is to be held at a later date in Medford, Ore.
