Jackson County will perform chip seal road maintenance work on South Stage Road between Highway 99 and Griffin Creek Road on Sunday.

Work will begin Sunday morning and last through mid-afternoon.

Motorists can expect delays up to 20 minutes and are asked to avoid the area if possible and to slow down in work zones. Motorists should continue to drive at slower speeds on the newly chip-sealed roadway until the loose rock is swept off early next week.

Chip sealing involves applying oil to the road surface, then covering it with crushed rock, Carl Rhoten, road maintenance manager for Jackson County Roads, explained. He said the surface treatment is cheaper than laying new asphalt.
