Air travel declined 1.7 percent in June at the Medford airport.

The 60,432 passengers last month were down from 2011's 61,471. It was the lowest June count since 60,267 in 2008.

Delta Connection saw a double-digit 11.6 percent increase, while Allegiant Air and Alaska Air Group's Horizon unit reported modest gains. However, United Express dropped 12.6 percent.

"(United Express) is up a flight to Denver, too," said Airport Director Bern Case. "Had they been anywhere near normal we would have been up for the month, instead we're down a touch."

Although the 20 commercial departures from the Rogue Valley is down one from last year, Case said parking lot activity indicates July should be a good month. Any time more than 60,000 travelers pass through the gate, it's a good month for the 11th-most active airport among the nation's 260 non-hub fields, he said. Mid-way through the year the passenger count was 295,069 — 0.6 percent ahead of 2011.

"We're still up for the year," Case said. "It's always disappointing when we're not up (year over year), but it's not a drastic number."
