Katina Sophia Papaceorgeo Avgeris, 89, of Ashland, Ore., passed away Friday, June 29, 2012. She was born January 30, 1923, in Patras, Greece.
Katina married George Avgeris in Greece in June of 1950.
Katina lived in Greece the first 27 years of her life. She was living in Athens during the WWII German occupation of Greece. She moved to Colestin, Ore. in November of 1950 and when she stepped off the train she saw snow for the first time in her life, four feet worth. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Katina's great joys in her life were cooking and her family.
Survivors include her children, Steve Avgeris, John Avgeris and Elizabeth Morgan; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband George; one sister; five brothers; her mother and father; and son-in-law, Rex Morgan.
A memorial service will be held to honor her life Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Siskiyou Memorial Cemetery, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, Ore., viewing begins at 9:00 a.m. Officiating is Bishop Auxentios from Saint Gregory Palamas Monastery in Etna, Calif.
