Three local bands will host a fundraiser to benefit those directly affected by the 2011 tsunami/earthquake in Japan.

Although it's been more than a year since the natural disaster, 400,000 people remain homeless as a result of the earthquake, says local drummer Tom Stamper, who is organizing the event.

The Siskiyou Jazz Project, Brian Swan Band and Modern Prometheus Jazz Company will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant and Bar, 35 N. Main St., Ashland.

Vocalist Sunny Mae Suzuki and her husband, trombonist Kaiki Suzuki, who are visiting the area from Japan, as well as two Tokyo-based jazz musicians, will sit in with Modern Prometheus.

Sunny Mae Suzuki will give a short talk about the situation of earthquake victims in Japan.

There is a $10 suggested donation. Call 541-488-9030.
