PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Ashland Grizzlies baseball team is off to a hot start in Arizona.

Sophomore Bryce Rogan hit a solo home run and Carter Glick smashed a key RBI single for the Grizzlies in a 4-3 win over Boulder, Colo., at the Greenway Festival Tournament on Tuesday.

Rogan, who finished 2-for-3, tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the second inning with his first varsity homer. Glick's run-scoring hit drove in Ethan Schlecht in the fourth inning and put Ashland ahead 3-2.

Utilizing some strong pitching, the Grizzlies (2-1) hung protected their lead.

Junior Jack Carroll (1-0) earned the win on the mound, recording four strikeouts and two walks in 51/3 innings. Steen Fredrickson replaced Carroll and went 11/3 innings, fanning one and walking one, and Schlecht recorded the final out of the game.

Schlecht was strong at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run.

Billy Hansen's RBI groundout in the first inning scored Evan Westhelle and put Ashland up 1-0.

"We came down here to get some good competition," Ashland head coach Paul Westhelle said. "We played well today and got a good win."

The Grizzlies continue tournament play today at 4 p.m. against Grandview, Colo.
