Ethelmae Tommie Kanclier

Ethelmae Tommie Kanclier, 93, of Ashland, Ore., passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012, at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. She was born November 10, 1918, in Montague, Calif., the daughter of Frances and John Thompson. She moved with her family from Montague to Gold Hill, Ore., in 1921 and soon settled in Ashland.

Tommie attended Ashland schools, graduating from Ashland High School in 1937. She attended Southern Oregon College from 1937 to 1939, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree. She received a nursing degree from the Emmanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Ore.

During World War II, Ethelmae served in the United States Navy Nurses Corp from 1944 to 1945.

On April 28, 1945, in Ashland, Ore., Tommie married Tony Kanclier, who survives. They continued to live in Ashland where she worked for the Jackson County Health Department from 1949 to 1971.

Tommie is survived by her husband, Anthony John Tony Kanclier, of Ashland, Ore.; and brother, Dr. W.B. Thompson, of Hood River, Ore.
