Local Potion is a work in progress. Over the past year, vocalist Danielle Kelly has been pulling together local musicians to form a Motown project.

Kelly says her mother grew up in inner-city Detroit and attended school with Stevie Wonder. And it was her mother who instilled Kelly's appreciation for the pop-style R&B of that time.

So far, Local Potion is Kelly, guitarist Jeff Stanley, drummer Matthew Kriemelman and bassist Michael Scott Bowman, but Kelly hopes the band will grow into a full-scale Motown band, complete with backup singers, a large rhythm section and horns.

The band has compiled a repertoire of about 23 songs, including ones by Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Little Eva and The Temptations, which it will present at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Avalon Bar & Grill, 105 W. Valley View Road, Talent.

Cover to the show is $5. Call 541-512-8864.
